If anyone follows this recipe, there is no way to get a mis-filed application, it’s a bulletproof methodology.
No way to defeat the lottery style selection process of course but there are a bunch of people getting their application DISMISSED for filing on the wrong date (too early) or LOSING call sign lottery possibility (too late)
If anyone follows this, they will have a chance at the pool selection for granting an application.
You must file the very first day that the call is available to have a shot for short calls.
There are a lot of websites out there showing this type of information but never saw anything that shows how the status type changes the best application date… these details are highlighted in this document. This document spells out exactly the best submission date – it works… I have 5 failed attempts over 2 months to determine all the correct parameters… I made some mistakes and also got mis-led by one website that forced a mistake once… each time I failed, I got better and fixed the problem… made this document over 2 months while I was doing this. Finally got K3XN on my 6th attempt. I chose my my attempted selections for various reasons including phonetic ease but this one I chose because it looks somewhat like my first name (LOL) à KEVIN = K3XN
Also note the enclosed spreadsheet I was tracking all the data so as not to forget the details which was helpful… the last one on the spreadsheet N5AX will fail naturally because the application used for it was call KJ5AXX which is no longer assigned --- so it WILL fail. This means there is actually a better chance for Justin to acquire now with one less competing applicant. Also, I have noticed 2 other applicants for N5AX that are in the same situation… if both get an earlier call sign they have applied for, they will also drop out… if both of those happen, the pool chances will have increased for Justin from 11% to 20%.
Note also that I tracked the costs of this effort in this spreadsheet which is not small… the process, learnings and 1x2 call sign costs added up to $175 at $35 a shot… not a small number – this is why I wanted to put this document out to the group… if I have started with this document, I believe the whole process would have cost me $105 because there is no doubt I would have been granted KW9N had I not made a filing mistake that this document would have prevented because I would have been the ONLY applicant on the proper day (The guy that got it filed one day late with no other competition – because I filed one day early and was dismissed) – I was prepared to dump up to $350 at this project to figure it out so I only spent about half of my budget.
Good engineering is a beautiful thing.
